Will Jon Rahm Return to the PGA Tour? What LIV’s End Means

Jon Rahm can’t return to the PGA Tour yet, and late August 2027 is the earliest date the Tour’s current rules allow. LIV Golf’s liquidation doesn’t move that up. Our read is that 2027 ends up being a full DP World Tour year and 2028 is when he’s really back. Anyone hoping for a quick deal like Brooks Koepka got should stop hoping.

The PGA Tour still hasn’t published a path for the LIV players. A spokesperson told GOLF.com the Tour had no new statement “at this time” after LIV’s lawyers told a New Jersey bankruptcy court on November 5 that the league would wind down.

Can Jon Rahm play on the PGA Tour right now?

No. PGA Tour rules bar players who competed in unsanctioned events for one year from their last appearance, and Rahm’s last LIV start was LIV Golf Indianapolis, which ended on August 23, 2026. That puts his eligibility at late August 2027, per GolfMagic and Yahoo Sports, and it would cost him nearly all of the 2027 FedExCup season.

Rahm’s lawyers announced in October that he was done with LIV. That cleared one problem. It didn’t clear the suspension.

Does LIV’s collapse change the PGA Tour’s rules?

Not so far, and the Tour has no reason to hurry. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said in September that the Returning Member Program Koepka used in January won’t be repeated, and he said in August that anyone coming back must “demonstrate that they are relieved of their contractual commitments” to LIV.

The Athletic reported, as cited by GolfMagic on November 7, that a public decision is unlikely before at least January 2027, because the bankruptcy has to play out first. So there’s a long quiet stretch ahead, and a lot of noise from players filling it.

The noise is pretty split, going by GOLF.com’s roundup on November 7. Rory McIlroy wants them back through the DP World Tour. Scottie Scheffler says penalties have to be paid. Erik van Rooyen told Golfweek they should go back to Q-School. None of that is policy, but it tells you the membership isn’t lining up to wave anyone through.

What has Jon Rahm said about going back?

Rahm said at the Abu Dhabi Championship on November 3 that he’d take the Koepka terms if they were offered. “If I got offered exactly the same penalties as him, I probably would do it, yes,” he said, per Field Level Media, before adding that he seriously doubted the offer was coming.

He also called the DP World Tour “a pretty good safety net” for next year. He kept his membership there through his LIV years, so nothing stops him from playing a full schedule in 2027.

How can Rahm earn a PGA Tour card for 2028?

The cleanest route is the Race to Dubai. The DP World Tour hands PGA Tour cards to its top 10 players who aren’t otherwise exempt, and a strong 2027 there would put Rahm back on the PGA Tour as a full member in 2028. Patrick Reed has been running this exact play in 2026, and he’s No. 2 on the list.

The PGA Tour’s new 2028 structure could offer another way in, but how many spots go to DP World Tour players hasn’t been settled.

The table below compares Rahm with Reed and the Race to Dubai leader, from our DP World Tour database, using the standings snapshot from November 7, 2026, which runs through the Genesis Championship and doesn’t include any Abu Dhabi points.

Player Race to Dubai rank Points Events Points per event
Eugenio Chacarra 1 4,143.89 29 142.9
Patrick Reed 2 3,474.62 20 173.7
Jon Rahm 51 1,025.45 7 146.5
Jon Rahm, without the PGA Championship n/a 155.45 6 25.9

That last row is the one to look at. Jon Rahm earned 870 of his 1,025.45 Race to Dubai points in 2026 from a tie for second at the PGA Championship, about 85 percent of his season total from one week.

Rahm’s regular DP World Tour results are thinner than the name suggests. From the 2024 season through September 2026, Jon Rahm played nine DP World Tour events that were neither majors nor the Olympics, with no wins, four top-10 finishes, and two missed cuts, per our database.

The card line isn’t the raw 10th spot, since exempt players don’t count, but it’s a useful yardstick. Matt Fitzpatrick sat 10th in the Race to Dubai on the November 7 snapshot with 1,882.95 points, 857.5 more than Rahm had. A full schedule closes that gap fast for a player this good. He just has to actually play it.

Why the Abu Dhabi Championship matters for Rahm

This week is the first real audition. Rahm took 18 under and a one-shot lead over Tyrrell Hatton and Francesco Laporta into Sunday at Yas Links, and he’d pushed that to 22 under and two clear through 14 holes of the final round on the RTE live leaderboard Sunday morning, with Hatton at 20 under and McIlroy at 19 under.

A win would be Rahm’s first victory outside LIV since the 2023 Masters, GOLF.com noted. It would also fix the problem in the table above in one afternoon, since he came in one spot outside the top 50 who advance to next week’s finale in Dubai. We covered how the board looked at the halfway point in our Abu Dhabi 36-hole leaderboard breakdown.

What Rahm’s PGA Tour limbo means for bettors

Treat Rahm as a DP World Tour player for all of 2027 unless the Tour says otherwise, and don’t bet any PGA Tour market that assumes he’s in the field before late August. Majors are a different matter, since they sit outside the Tour’s membership rules, and he played all four in 2026.

The form question is where a bettor can get an edge. Prices on him will keep leaning on the name and on the 2026 PGA Championship, while his regular-event numbers since 2024 are a lot more ordinary. Before you bet him at a short number in Europe next year, it’s worth knowing how to weigh recent stats against a big reputation. If you’d rather set those weights yourself, here’s how the Rabbit Hole model builder works.

One honest caveat. Nine events over three seasons is a small sample, and a full 2027 schedule will tell us a lot more than these nine do.

FAQ

What did Brooks Koepka‘s return to the PGA Tour cost him?

Koepka agreed to a 5 million dollar charitable donation, gave up PGA Tour equity grants for five years, and lost FedExCup bonus eligibility for 2026, per GOLF.com and Yahoo Sports. Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith were all eligible for that same January program and passed.

What happens next in the LIV Golf bankruptcy?

LIV’s lawyers told the court they intended to file a wind-down plan and disclosure statement on Monday, November 9, 2026. The sale of what’s left of the league follows from there, and contract questions for the players are tied to that process.

Is Bryson DeChambeau in the same spot as Rahm?

Largely, yes. The Tour hasn’t published a return path for him either, and any route back runs through the same contract and suspension questions.
