Scottish Open Picks

Tyrrell Hatton — It hasn’t mattered whether it’s been the Majors, LIV, the DP World Tour, or the Asian Tour; Hatton has continued to swim around leaderboards over the past year. He’s also had a great run in Scotland, with multiple strong finishes at the Alfred Dunhill over the years, and even dating back to when the Scottish Open was just a DP World Tour event, he’s never finished worse than T24 at the Renaissance Club. Wyndham Clark — May as well ride the heater until it flames out. Clark hasn’t finished worse than T25 in any of his previous four starts in Scotland, including a T11/T10 run over the past two years when he didn’t hit his irons well at all. Approach play has been much less of an issue for Wyndham over the past few months.

Kurt Kitayama — Kitayama’s ball striking continues to be among the best on Tour, even against the elite. He previously earned a runner-up finish at the Renaissance Club, and his European experience will be a bonus if the conditions pick up in Scotland.

Tom Kim — Another week, another tick upward for TK with his irons. Unfortunately, the putter did not cooperate at the John Deere Classic. However, a return to the comfy confines of the Renaissance Club may be exactly what he needs to get everything back on the same page and truly contend again. Kim hasn’t finished worse than T17 in any of his four starts at the Scottish Open since it joined the PGA TOUR schedule.

Nicolai Hojgaard — Top-6 finishes in two of the past three years at this event, along with a runner-up earlier this year at another Tom Doak design in Houston. The Renaissance Club allows for spray-and-pray off the tee, and that’s Nicolai’s whole jam.

Eugenio Chacarra & Michael Brennan — Grip it, rip it, and pray another part of their games spikes.

ISCO Championship Picks

We’re just having some fun here. Ben James has been impressive in most of the pro rounds he’s played so far… If Glover plays 50% as well with his ball striking but actually putts this week, he’ll be back in contention… Skinns loves a spike week with his putter and is the best in the field from 150 yards and in, which I hear is a pretty good skill to have on one of the shortest courses on TOUR… I just like betting on PONTUS (™ALL CAPS), the Swedish dentist.

Expect low scores with this forecast. This is about as good as it gets for Scotland. Being this close to the ocean, there’s always a chance rain and wind come up out of the blue, so check back day by day just to make sure if you’re playing showdown or looking for H2H or live betting opportunities.

It’s tough to model out a lot of the LIV and DPWT players this week, but here’s what we came up with between the four of us at Betsperts Golf.

In a stacked field sans the softer Major pricing, we’re seeing the Top 3 players (Scottie, Rory, and Rahm) get more overlooked than usual in favor of loading up with the 9K build. Tommy, Ludvig, Xander, and Matt Fitzpatrick are projected to be four of the top five owners, with Alex Fitzpatrick, Kris Reitan, and Nicolai Hojgaard in the high 7s range, all not far behind. Expect a combination of those five guys to populate a lot of teams.

From below, Tom Kim (7600) is garnering the most interest, so anticipate him getting thrown into the mix with those other highly owned players.

Personally, I like the start of Gotterup/Clark, then do whatever you want, but I lose a lot at this, so proceed with caution.
