2026 World Wide Technology Championship Leaderboard: Ben James Leads by 4 After Round 3

Ben James leads the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship at 21 under par after Round 3, four shots clear of the field at El Cardonal at Diamante. Ryan Gerard is alone in second at 17 under, Chris Kirk and Denny McCarthy are tied for third at 16 under, and -310 at FanDuel is too much to pay for a 23-year-old who has never closed one out on the PGA Tour.

Round 3 wrapped up Saturday, so there is no leftover golf to sort out. James goes off in the last group Sunday with Gerard and Kirk at 11:42 AM CT.

World Wide Technology Championship Round 3 standings

Ben James sits at 21 under, 195 through 54 holes of the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship, after rounds of 65, 64, and 66. Only three players are within five shots of him. Four more are tied for fifth at 15 under, and that is about where anyone realistic stops.

The table below shows the top of the leaderboard after Round 3, per the PGA Tour and ESPN leaderboards on Sunday morning, November 8.

Key storylines from Round 3 in Los Cabos

Ben James handled the wind

James birdied his first three holes Saturday and finished with seven birdies against one bogey, at the eighth, his only bogey of the week. The 66 was his highest score of the tournament, and his lead still grew from one shot to four. “I almost feel like I played better today than the first two rounds even though my score didn’t show it,” James said.

Here is the case against him, and it is a fair one. He led the RBC Canadian Open at the halfway point in June and finished tied for 54th. His best PGA Tour finish is second at the Biltmore Championship Asheville. He has not won yet.

Gerard and Kirk are the ones who actually moved

Gerard played bogey-free for a 65 and jumped from five back to four back, which does not sound like much until you see everyone else who went the wrong way. Kirk, the Round 1 leader, followed his 63 and 72 with another 65. Those two are the threats, and they happen to be in the final group with the leader.

Peter Malnati gave it all back

Malnati started Saturday one shot out of the lead and shot 73. He fell into a tie for 13th at 13 under, eight back. Zac Blair, third after 36 holes, also shot 73 and dropped to a tie for 22nd at 11 under.

Michael Kim‘s 63, a Coody ace, and Ben Griffin running out of road

Kim shot the low round of the day, a 63, and went from nowhere to a tie for ninth at 14 under. Pierceson Coody made a hole-in-one at the 178-yard ninth, the first ever on that hole in this event at El Cardonal. Defending champion Ben Griffin shot 69 and sits tied for 27th at 10 under, so the odds to repeat story is effectively finished.

World Wide Technology Championship odds and the final-round betting angle

The verdict: pass on Ben James at -310 at FanDuel, because that price implies about a 76 percent chance and the same man was -255 at Prophet X at the same check. If you want a chaser, Ryan Gerard at +700 at FanDuel is the number, since no other book on the board had him that long.

Here is how FanDuel’s outright prices moved, comparing the board we pulled at 4:39 AM CT on Saturday, November 7, with the board at 4:38 AM CT on Sunday, November 8.

Player After Round 3 FanDuel Sat 11/7 FanDuel Sun 11/8
Ben James -21 +115 -310
Ryan Gerard -17 +1500 +700
Chris Kirk -16 +5500 +2000
Denny McCarthy -16 +2200 +2200
Keith Mitchell -15 +3000 +3300
Alvaro Ortiz -15 +6000 +5500
Peter Malnati -13 +1200 +35000

Gerard’s move is the one that matters. FanDuel cut him from +1500 to +700 in a day, and it is still longer than DraftKings at +620 and Fanatics at +650 at the same check. On Novig, the betting exchange, he was +590. He needs the leader to give some back, sure. But four shots with the leader playing alongside him is not nothing, and at El Cardonal the winner has come from behind every single year.

That last part deserves a closer look. Erik van Rooyen won here in 2023 from one shot behind co-leaders Matt Kuchar and Camilo Villegas. Austin Eckroat won in 2024 after Nico Echavarria, Justin Lower, and Carson Young shared the 54-hole lead. Ben Griffin chased down a one-shot leader in Garrick Higgo in 2025. Then again, none of those leaders had a four-shot cushion, which is exactly why the price is so short.

If you want something that does not need a collapse, Denny McCarthy‘s top-5 price was +114 at DraftKings in a quote from Saturday night, and Kirk was +102 at the same book. Check your book’s dead-heat rule first, since four players are tied one shot behind them. Prices will swing hard once the leaders get a few holes in, and our guide on how in-play golf odds move explains why waiting can pay.

The course still comes down to approach play and a hot putter more than length. Four par 5s sit at 1, 6, 14, and 18, and all four played well under par here in 2025, and with 14 and 18 both on the back nine, anyone chasing still has two real scoring chances late. If you would rather build that into your own numbers, here is how the Rabbit Hole model builder works.

Sunday’s forecast helps the leaders more than it hurts them. Open-Meteo’s blend and GFS models both had winds around 5 to 11 mph during the final groups’ rounds as of Sunday morning, well down from Saturday’s blow. The two models disagree on rain, with the blend climbing toward 46 percent by 3 PM local and GFS staying near zero.
