Underdog Fantasy does a great job of giving us so many different offerings to choose from. From round score to fairways hit, fantasy points to greens in regulation, their offerings are unmatched in the industry.
For Round 1, our biggest edge is in Greens in Regulation (GIR%) and fairways hit. Taking a few stroke “overs” is also a decent look, as the first round has played as the most difficult of the four in each of the past three stops at TPC River Highlands.
I’m going to focus on GIR%. Over the past five years on Tour, the average GIR% has been 65.8%. Over the past five visits to TPC River Highlands, it’s been 70.2%, topping out at 72.6% last year, which is roughly 13.5 Greens in Regulation per golfer.
Now, this week’s field will find a course that has undergone some “competitive enhancements” due to unusually low scoring last year and Rory McIlroy’s comments about technology rendering the layout obsolete. While the course’s length has not been increased, six holes have undergone significant changes.
Even so, I’m looking at some of the best short-iron approach players in the field, honing in on golfers who also hit fairways at a decent clip, which increases their chances of finding the green from 150 yards and in.
