The Mexico Open at Vidanta: Betting Recap

While the road getting to there had a few twists and turns, the result at the Mexico Open at Vidanta this weekend was one that was fairly expected. Jon Rahm (+470) was the heavy favorite all week and took home the win at -17 for the tournament, one shot ahead of Brandon Wu (+11000), Kurt Kitayama (+15000, and Tony Finau (+2400). Finau had the third-shortest outright odds headed into this one behind just Rahm and Abraham Ancer who finished T42 at -6. Rahm obviously cashed his outright, but also hit his Top 5 (+260), Top 10 (+110), and Top 20 (-185). While Rahm’s Top 20 number opened at -185, it made a huge shift throughout the week closing at -370.

  • Mentioned above, Tony Finau entered the tournament with +2400 outright odds. While those didn’t cash, he did hit his Top 5 (+450, Top 10 (+230), and Top 20 (+110). Finau was just -3 headed into the weekend rounds, but thanks to a 66 on Saturday and a 63 on Sunday he was able to hit some of his heavily bet props.
  • Cameron Champ was another heavily bet golfer this week. He wasn’t quite the favorite Rahm or Finau were, he did enter the week with +4200 outright odds good for 10th-shortest in the field. Champ outright bettors had to be feeling good most of the tournament as he was right around the lead until a Triple Bogey on the Par 4 8th hole took him too far out of contention and being the cause of a bad beat for Top 5 bettors (+850). Champ did cash his Top 10 (+450) and Top 20 (+190) lines so if you bet Champ every which way this weekend you were still likely profitable.
