Each week, I share the top 20 players in our model’s projections based on win percentage. I also include reactions to the initial results and context as to why certain players landed higher or lower than the market. Here are the results for this week’s Masters Tournament.
At the top, we have some slight discrepancies between some of the favorites to win The Masters. Our own Ron Klos likes Justin Thomas the best out of this group, but the model is projecting Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffle to have the best odds to win this week. Over McIlroy’s last 36 rounds, he ranks third in driving distance among players in the field this week.
Speaking of players at the top, this week we are a bit lower on Patrick Cantlay. While most of his game has been solid as of late, he ranks just 51st in SG: APP over his last 24 rounds.
One player who has recently snuck himself into the top 20 players of our model is Si Woo Kim. Outside of the top 20 in odds at most books, Kim also has had struggles with his approach game as of late, but his off-the-tee numbers have been excellent. Over his last 24 rounds, Kim ranks fifth in SG: OTT, an important metric for our model and for playing at Augusta.
