The Year of Scheffler rolled right along through the 2022 Masters as Scottie Scheffler earned a relatively drama-free 3-shot win at Augusta National this weekend. The win was Scheffler’s 4th in his last six tournaments and his first Major. Scheffler teed off on Hole #1 Sunday with a three-shot lead over Cam Smith, who after Scheffler is having arguably the best year on tour. Birdies on 1 and 2 for Smith cut Scheffler’s lead to just a shot. But the drama ended as quickly as it began. On #3, Scheffler and Smith had similar chip shots short and left of the green. Scheffler chipped in for birdie, Smith made bogey. The three-shot lead was restored and no one got closer than three shots the rest of the way.
- Scheffler opened betting with +1600 odds on FanDuel to wear the Green Jacket and entered Thursday with +1500 odds; good for the 4th shortest odds. Along with cashing his outright odds, Scheffler also cashed his Top 5 (+270), Top 10 (+130), and Top 20 (-190) odds this weekend at Augusta National.
- Scottie Scheffler might have won The Masters, but the main storyline of the weekend was the return of Tiger Woods. Playing in his first tournament since his horrific car accident last year, Woods not only played, but fired a 1-under 71 on Thursday, and battled bad weather conditions on Friday to finish strong and make the cut. Tiger’s play over the weekend tapered off a bit, but the fact that he made the cut and was able to walk and play Augusta four consecutive days just over a year removed from wondering whether or not he’d walk again is a massive victory in itself. Any time Tiger’s in the field, his odds will be bet up. Tiger opened with +5500 odds to win and teed off Thursday with +5000 odds. Tiger’s “Make the Cut” bet cashed with odds opening at -112 and closing at -108.
- In what’s becoming the new tradition unlike any other, when fairly out of contention, Rory McIlroy was lights out on Sunday at Augusta. He entered the final round at +1 for the tournament, but after a Sunday 64, he surged up the leaderboard finishing -7 and in solo 2nd place. Rory’s odds to win at Augusta were the 7th shortest at +1900 to open the tournament. With his 2nd Place finish, Rory cashed out his Top 5 (+360), Top 10 (+175), and Top 20 (-140) bets.
- Some pretty notable names surprisingly missed the cut at the 2022 Masters. Brooks Koepka (+340 to miss the cut), Jordan Spieth (+310 to miss the cut), Xander Schauffele (+400 to miss the cut), and Sam Burns (+200 to miss the cut) all missed the weekend despite entering the tournament within the Top 15 shortest pre-tournament odds to win outright.
