With second-round leader Ryan Palmer shooting a 5-over 77 on Saturday, numerous contenders took advantage and jumped to the top of the Valero Texas Open leaderboard. The quartet of Brandt Snedeker, J.J. Spaun, Dylan Frittelli and Beau Hossler are tied on top at 10-under par.
While Snedeker has won his fair share of tournaments before, Frittelli’s only win came in 2019 at the John Deere Classic. Both Hossler and Spaun are still looking for their first PGA Tour win. All things being equal, if each player would have putted to their average baseline, Snedeker would have a three-shot lead going into the fourth round. At +600 to win, he is a Tour veteran who has been in this situation many more times than the other leaders and is my favorite outright play. Maverick McNealy, who has been a ball-striking maestro, gaining 8.5 strokes thus far, would be in second place had he putted to his baseline. He is my favorite longshot play at +2500.
