Jason Day fired a 7-under 63 to take the first-round lead at the Wells Fargo Championship. His newly built swing looked sharp as he gained 4.2 strokes off the tee and on approach. Nobody, however, was more dialed in with their irons than Joel Dahmen. He gained 4.3 strokes on approach alone and finished one shot back of Day with a 64. A quintet of players sits two shots back including Matthew Wolff, Denny McCarthy, Aaron Rai, Paul Barjon, and Callum Tarren.
Thursday’s conditions were most likely the best the tournament will see for the remainder of the week. Friday’s second round sees rain setting in for most of the afternoon along with increasing winds. The rest of the weekend is forecast to have a mixture of rain, wind and cold. With tougher conditions, the cut-line will be somewhere around even par, setting up a wild Friday as players battle the challenging elements.

*Strokes Gained Rating (SG RTG) is the key metric that combines all the weighted categories in the model.
