Best Bets: The Masters

Our BetSperts Golf staff has combed through the projections and available lines to identify our favorite bets for the Masters. These are our Best Bets for the weekend.

Dustin Johnson Top 10 (+170)

Ryan Noonan: With two top-10 finishes in his last three starts, including a trip to the WGC Match Play final four last time out, Dustin Johnson heads back to Augusta in terrific form and slightly under the radar. His tee-to-green game is still among the best in the world, ranking eighth in strokes gained ball-striking (SG: BS) over the past six months. His around the green stats have dipped this year, but they’re skewed by an outlier performance at The Genesis that I’m comfortable ignoring.

The pressure and attention that follows you as the defending champion, are gone. The Tour has lots of shiny new objects these days, and the media’s Tiger Tornado will help keep the pre-tournament spotlight off of the 2020 champion. Wheels up on DJ this week. I bet him outright, and will also back him at +170 on PointsBet to finish inside the top-10.

For all of his bets, including an outright, a matchup, and a miss the cut prop, check out Ryan’s Betting Preview

Sam Burns Top 20 (+150)

Andy Molitor: We’re in the South, but it ain’t Bermuda, and I don’t care.  I’m not in the market for great putters this week anyways.  If we’re being honest though, if you can roll it like Sam does on the grain of the Bermuda, you’d think we’d be able to get at least some DECENT putting on these pure bentgrass surfaces.  A good ball striker with distance and a high enough GIR% to have me looking at him outright, my numbers think this top 20 price should be a little closer to +120.

A rough start to the season on the west coast blossomed into a gorgeous Florida swing, culminated by a(nother) win at the Valspar where he wasn’t just letting his putting buoy him up the leaderboard, he was striking the ball with the best of them. I love that he took the past two weeks off to prepare for his first trip to Augusta.  Again, outside of a little bump in the road out West, I’ve loved his play this past year and the eye test agrees with the stats: he’s ready to compete in a high-end field like this.

Xander Schauffele Top 20 (-110)

Ron Klos: What stands out for me with Schauffele is his overall consistency especially in majors and on courses with difficult scoring conditions. He has finished in the top-17 here at Augusta over the past three years, including a 2nd and 3rd place finish. When digging further, he has finished in the top-17 in eight of his last 11 majors. He’s also gained 21 strokes on the field tee-to-green over his last four events which is a very positive trend when heading into Masters week.

Brooks Koepka Top 10 (+190)

John Daigle: Not much thought is required here since Koepka has earned 11 top-five finishes in his last 21 major championships. Despite missing the cut at Augusta while playing on one leg last year, Koepka enters Magnolia Lane at full health and top form with the 14th-longest distance off the tee among this field over the last 36 rounds, complementing his above-average strokes gained in Approach (0.3) in that time—an important note for a second-shot course. Wagering on this number at PointsBet in particular also allows us to leverage any heater ‘Big Game Brooks’ pieces together during Sunday’s final round into a higher payout.
