The PGA Tour’s fall swing continues with the Bank of Utah Championship at the Black Desert Resort, home to a Top 100-ranked course crafted by legendary designer Tom Weiskopf. Framed by striking lava fields and red rock landscapes in the arid desert of southern Utah, the Black Desert Resort was the last golf course that Weiskopf was associated with before his death. The stunning layout was completed in 2023 by Weiskopf’s design partner, Phil Smith.
Sitting at 3,100 feet of elevation, it’s a par 71 desert track that doesn’t play as long as its scorecard yardage. It’s an easy-scoring resort course with generous fairways, minimal rough, and large greens. Though fairways average 48 yards wide, errant drives can be particularly costly because of the exposed lava rock surrounding the playing corridors.
Michael Brennan is back to defend his 2025 title. He shot 22 under par, including a final round 66, and finished four strokes ahead of Rico Hoey for his first PGA Tour victory. He led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, ranking second in driving distance.
The Bank of Utah Championship features a 120-player field led by defending champion Michael Brennan, who enters the week ranked No. 32 in the Official World Golf Ranking after another strong season that included a second PGA TOUR victory at the Wyndham Championship. Maverick McNealy, currently No. 48 in the OWGR, is the only other player inside the top 50.
The field also includes Tony Finau, Max Homa, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Billy Horschel, Lucas Glover, Ben James, Nick Taylor, Matt Wallace, Denny McCarthy, Matt McCarty, Marco Penge, Eric Cole, Max Greyserman, Jackson Koivun and Davis Thompson.

In each preview article and on Discord, I present my final model, which gives a detailed player ranking of the most important stats and splits for the week. My modeling is based on the PGA’s Strokes Gained data, which is categorized into SG: Off the Tee (OTT), SG: Approach (APP), SG: Around the Green (ARG), and SG: Putting (P). Learn more about Strokes Gained and why it can be so useful in analyzing the past and predicting future performance. Many of these specific metrics and conditions can be found in “The Rabbit Hole“, with my final model exclusively published here and in the Discord for subscribers.
