AT&T Byron Nelson Projections Preview

Each week, I share the top 20 players in our model’s projections based on win percentage. I also include reactions to the initial results and context as to why certain players landed higher or lower than the market. Here are the results for this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson:

  • This week we are aggressively higher on Jordan Spieth, who recently won the RBC Heritage in his last tournament played a little less than a month ago. Over his last 20 rounds played, he is averaging 1.53 strokes gained tee-to-green (seventh best in the field) and 0.55 strokes gained around-the-green (ninth best). There should probably be some discounting for taking so long off from playing, but he’s in great form.
  • Sepp Straka is also showing up positively in our model. Though not a large part of the model, it does take some putting performance into account and Straka has been exceptional lately, ranking seventh in strokes gained putting with an average of 0.83 over his last 20 rounds. He also ranks third overall in total strokes gained, averaging 1.7 over that same span.
  • This time, it is not Aaron Wise week. Despite finishing T6 at the Mexico Open the other week, Wise has struggled around-the-green in his last 20 rounds, ranking 39th in strokes gained with an average of just 0.26. That’s enough to boot him out of the top 20 this week.
