Fighting off fatigue and a sinus infection, Rory McIlroy did not skip a beat and continued his scorching hot play by shooting an 8-under 62 for a share of the first-round lead with J.T. Poston in the Travelers Championship.
Matching the lowest opening round of his PGA Tour career, McIlroy did most of his damage with the short game gaining 5.2 strokes putting and around the green. J.T. Poston, who is most known for his short game, led the field in SG: Approach, gaining 4.7 strokes. Xander Schauffele and Martin Laird are each one stroke back.
With rain falling for much of the day on Wednesday, greens were very soft in the morning. Conditions became somewhat tougher in the afternoon as the greens firmed and the winds increased. Friday appears to be a perfect day for scoring with light winds forecast throughout.
