2022 PGA Championship Round 3 Betting and Showdown Picks

Will Zalatoris fired a 5-under 65 to take the 36-hole lead into the weekend at the 104th edition of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was on fire with his irons gaining 2.9 strokes on approach while also gaining another 2.6 putting. Similar to the 2021 Masters when he gained the third-most putting strokes for the week, he currently leads the field gaining 6.2 shots with his flat stick.

While howling winds plagued the morning wave of players to an average score of 3.09 strokes over par, those teeing off in the afternoon, like Zalatoris, saw a dramatic decrease in wind speeds around 3:00 pm. Taking advantage were the likes of Mito Pereira (64) and Bubba Watson who shot tied the course record of 63. Justin Thomas led the morning wave of players, shooting a consecutive 67 and going into the weekend in solo third place. Rory McIlroy shot 1-over and is tied for fifth with Abraham Ancer and Davis Riley.

Winds are going to remain a factor all weekend. It does appear that, overall, winds are less breezy in the morning than later in the afternoon when they are constant at 16-20 mph. The big difference for all players is that with the cold front that comes through overnight, winds will be blowing from the north in the complete opposite direction. Temperatures will also be much cooler in the 60s and dropping quickly into the low 50s by 4 pm. It will be interesting to see who can adapt to the changing conditions.
