2022 Charles Schwab Challenge Betting Card Preview

I’ve been betting on golf for a while and have been on the wrong side of Sunday playoff outcomes more times than I can count, but to have a playoff where I have outright bets on both participants, at a Major no less, was a pretty remarkable feeling. Southern Hills and the PGA Championship delivered in every way, and I’m excited to build off the momentum, having bagged two winners in the past three weeks. Kudos to my Betsperts Golf compadres, Ron Klos and Geoff Feinberg, who also backed Justin Thomas last week. Community wins are the best. Now we’re on to Colonial.

Some will say there’s always a post-Major hangover, but I’m a big fan of this event. As Ron noted in his course preview, the Tour has been coming here since 1946, so we know what we’re getting this week. Precision is the name of the game, both off the tee and into these small bentgrass greens. Birdies are hard to come by, and historically bombers have been forced to go less-than-driver more than most other tracks due to the many forced layups, doglegs, thick Bermuda rough, and tight tree-lined fairways. We’ve seen an increase in driver usage off the tee over the past few years, most notably last year’s winner Jason Kokrak. When possible, teeing it up high and hitting it over the trees to take the dogleg out will likely be a trend that continues this week. Regardless, as is often the case, approach play is paramount this week.
